GENERAL DESCRIPTION
|

The Nurse Manager oversees, organizes and directs the work of nursing staff in collaboration with the physicians and the clinical research team. The role includes coordinating staff to assure that effective nursing services are provided to radiation oncology patients, and quality standards are met. A multidisciplinary team approach to care is utilized. The nurse manager is a proactive liaison for other departments such as training, radiation therapy, physics, administration, billing, clinical research and all departments that involve the patients care.
The Nurse Manager works within general methods and procedures, and exercises considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply the guidelines to specific situations. The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of nursing programs, supervisory techniques, personnel policies, and procedures.
The Nurse Manager functions as a first-line administrative and clinical supervisor of a complex work area coordinating and directing nursing activities of subordinate, licensed, professional, Registered Nurses and ancillary staff to assure that all of the needs of a radiation oncology patient are completely met.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
|
- Bachelor's degree in nursing though may be substituted for six months of Registered Nurse experience.
- Possession of Oklahoma licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Certification in Clinical Research Professional desired but not mandatory.
- NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES
|
- Ensures quality of care to patients and families represents "best in class".
- Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services, analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities in collaboration with Stake holders for improving services and patient outcomes.
- Contributes to the professional development of staff, students, and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
- Coordinates with clinical research assuring all regulations and Good Clinical Practice guidelines are followed.
- Responsible for reporting to clinical research team any discovered protocol violations and/or breaches in human subject protection.
- Responsible for interviewing and hiring nursing staff.
- Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations.
- Responsible for operating within approved budget.
- Ensures availability and operation of necessary equipment and supplies for patient care.
- Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriate to licensure, education, and experience of staff.
- Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
- Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
- Supervises and participates in the provision of general nursing care services.
- Assures staff evaluates and documents patient progress, toxicities and helps manage those toxicities.
- Serves as liaison between staff and other areas within the facility at large, and as an advisor to other disciplines.
- Assesses needs for personnel, supplies, equipment, and physical facilities for budget planning.
- Participates in clinical conferences, workshops, seminars, and related forums.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Will cover Staff Nurse, Nurse Intake and Recovery Nurse as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Knowledge of nursing processes used in the practice of radiation oncology nursing.
- Knowledge of training and supervisory techniques.
- Ability to instruct, direct, and evaluate employees.
- Ability to maintain records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, subordinates, superiors, partner hospitals/medical practices, the general public, representatives of public and private organizations and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
- Basic knowledge of principles in the conduct of Clinical Research and Human Research Subject Protection.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
|
|
Works with President to understand and adhere to budget requirements. Communicates budget thresholds to nursing staff, and works to ensure nursing staff remain within budget on both operational and capital expenditures. Monitors budget performance during the fiscal year, recommends adjustments to spending and corrects discrepancies. Prepares visual reports as a management tool for leadership on a monthly basis.
