general Description

The Medical Physicist assists the Senior Medical Physicists in the general medical physics duties pertaining to operating a radiotherapy clinic.  This includes complex treatment planning, patient positioning, radiation protection, machine and patient specific quality assurance in close collaboration with therapists, physicians and dosimetrists.  The Medical Physicist will also work closely with partner photon radiotherapy providers and will participate in the acceptance testing and commissioning of the proton therapy equipment. The Medical Physicists are primarily responsible, under the direct supervision of a senior medical physicist, for the patient specific and general QA aspects of the treatment processes and the equipment.

responsibilities

·         At the direction of the medical physics leadership at ProCure’s Training and Development Center and the Director, Medical Physics & Dosimetry,  participates in the commissioning and acceptance testing of all proton therapy equipment, according to industry standards, all federal state and local regulations governing said commissioning and doing so to meet ProCure deadline for completion.

·         Performs daily calibrations for all therapy equipment and radioactive sources as assigned.

·         Is proficient using radiation measuring equipment, treatment planning computers, and Record and Verify system.

·         Adheres to all Medical Physics QA procedures and policies.

·         Participates in Lean process with center team to ensure quality, efficient and effective production of treatment plans and integrated work flow throughout the patient treatment process.

·         Works with the Center Billing Manager to improve processes and produce documentation required during account / appeal processes.

·         Ensures a robust Physics component of Mosaiq, the Mosaiq EMR and utilizes quality check list for intra and inter ProCure department(s) communication.

·         Performs quality control tests of proton beam characteristics and mechanical characteristics of all proton therapy equipment.

·         Measures, analyzes and enters data used for treatment planning computer software and tests new versions of software as directed by Senior Medical Physicists.

·         Performs patient-specific radiation measurements and calculations and assists in the selection and specifications of any complex beam devices required to protect critical structures.

·         Proactively participates in the development, transitioning, and maintenance of paperless processes

·         Performs weekly patient chart checks, as assigned, to verify accuracy.

·         Assists the Center’s Radiation Safety Officer in performing functions and reporting (annual, adverse incidents, etc) required by partner hospital, local state and federal agencies. 

·         Participates in the at-center training of all new Physics staff; assists in at-center training of Dosimetrists as requested by the  Director of Center Medical Physics and Dosimetry.

·         Participates in research and development projects in collaboration with the ProCure Medical Physics teams at the Training and Development Center, as approved by the Director of Center Medical Physics and Dosimetry.

·         Other duties as assigned.

working environment

·         Exposures to hazardous risks include radiation exposure (under the ALARA principle), potential exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals.  Potential for bodily injury due to lifting.  Required to follow universal precautions.  Exposure to cleaning / sterilization agents.   Hazards will be minimal if proper safety precautions are utilized.  Work is mainly performed in an area with little/no natural light, and in close proximity to other team members. 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

·         Reports any process improvement opportunities to the Director, Medical Physics & Dosimetry.

·         Informs Director, Medical Physics & Dosimetry of required resources for budgeting purposes.

 

OTHER

·         Will work in Warrenville, IL. 

·         Other duties as required by Senior Center Management

·         Every ProCure employee is responsible for the up-keep and maintenance of the facility.
