Research Findings

Ongoing research continues to support the advantages of proton therapy in the treatment of many types of tumors. Clinical studies have shown that proton therapy is superior in targeting the tumor and sparing healthy tissue of radiation compared to other forms of radiation therapy. Proton therapy has also been shown to safely deliver additional dose of radiation to a tumor site without increasing the toxicity level. In 2008, Massachusetts General Hospital reported that protons decreased the risk of secondary cancer by 50%.
