Getting Started

At ProCure Proton Therapy Center, we make the process of getting treatment with protons as easy as possible. If you have been diagnosed with cancer and are considering proton therapy as a treatment option, you can contact our intake nurse at (888) 847-2640 or submit an online form to request a consultation with a radiation oncologist at the Center. A Physician Review Board will evaluate your case and determine if you can benefit from protons.

Collect medical information

Our intake nurse will collect your information and coordinate the initial review of your case by the medical team. Your specific diagnosis and other factors will help determine if you could benefit from proton therapy. When you call, the intake nurse will ask you several questions regarding your medical history. Our team will assist you in collecting the following documents and information before presenting your case to the Physician Review Board for evaluation:

  • Your cancer diagnosis
  • Imaging or diagnostic records from your physician
  • Any prior cancer treatment you may have had
  • Pathology reports
  • Your current medications
  • Family medical history
  • Allergies
  • Insurance information
  • Availability for treatment
  • A referral for radiation therapy

Physician Review Board

A Physician Review Board will evaluate your diagnosis in detail to determine if you may benefit from proton therapy. Once your diagnosis has been reviewed, you will be contacted to discuss next steps. If it is determined that your diagnosis is not appropriate for protons, other treatment options for you will be recommended.

Insurance Evaluation/Financial Counselor

During the process of clinical review, a financial counselor will contact your insurance carrier to determine your plan's coverage. They will also help you understand your potential costs. Most private insurance plans, Medicare and, in many cases, Medicaid, cover proton therapy.

If you are recommended for proton therapy, a financial counselor will contact you and help you manage the financial aspects of receiving treatment. If your insurance doesn't cover all of your expenses, a counselor will help you find alternative financing options.

Scheduling Your Consultation

After the Physician Review Board has reviewed your case, has determined that you are a good candidate for proton therapy, and you've connected with a financial counselor, the intake nurse will contact you to schedule a consultation with one of Radiation Medicine Associates' radiation oncologists at the Center.

Treatment Planning

After your consultation, a multi-disciplinary team will develop a personalized treatment plan for you to ensure the best possible outcome. This is a complicated process and may take up to two weeks to complete. During this time, you might not be contacted but progress is being made. Once the treatment plan is complete, you will be contacted to begin the treatment process.
